The SUBBIMATT project was presented at the PPI Conference 2026, held from 1 to 4 September 2026, offering an opportunity to share some of the project’s latest research with the scientific community.

During the conference, Fey Papadopoulou from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) presented the work “Negative Thermoresponsive NIPAAm/HPMC Hydrogel for Textile Coating Applications”.

The research focuses on the development of thermoresponsive hydrogel coatings for smart textile applications. A hybrid hydrogel combining N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and the bio-based component hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) was developed to respond reversibly to temperature changes, with a transition occurring at around 32°C.

When applied as a coating to knitted fabrics, this temperature-responsive behaviour can modify the fabric structure, highlighting its potential for the development of adaptive and more sustainable smart textiles.

Participation in the PPI Conference provided a valuable opportunity to disseminate SUBBIMATT’s research and exchange knowledge with researchers and experts working on advanced and functional materials.
