On 27–28 May 2025, the SUBBIMATT consortium gathered in the Basque Country, Spain, for the project’s General Assembly, hosted across two locations: Tekniker in Eibar and the Universidad del País Vasco in Bilbao.

The meeting offered an opportunity to assess the progress of project activities, align efforts, and define the next phases.

The first day in Eibar focused on the ongoing development of bio-based and bioinspired textile materials. Partners shared updates on smart formulations and functional coatings inspired by natural mechanisms, aiming to enhance adaptability, moisture control, and energy responsiveness. They also presented circular textile intermediates made from renewable sources, combining sustainability with industrial processability, as well as next-generation technical textiles featuring self-healing properties, shape-memory behavior and smart thermal regulation. The agenda also included a presentation of the SUINK project, with which SUBBIMATT aims to establish further networking opportunities throughout the project duration.

The second day continued in Bilbao and was co-hosted by IMACROMAT (the polymer research group) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (ZTF-FCT) of the Universidad del País Vasco, whose facilities were used for the meeting. Presentations included updates from Tinexta Innovation Hub on exploitation and dissemination, with additional contributions from the National Technical University of Athens and Centexbel. ProtoQSAR and Tekniker presented their progress on Safe and Sustainable by Design approaches and sustainability assessment. University College London provided insights into material characterization, modelling and optimisation. Centexbel, the project coordinator, closed the session with an overview of coordination activities and planning. The day concluded with a guided visit to the laboratories of the Universidad del País Vasco.

This two-day event reinforced collaboration among partners and ensured alignment across all work packages.
