The kick-off meeting of the SUBBIMATT project took place on September 19-20, 2024, at the research institute Centexbel in the picturesque city of Gent, Belgium. The event marked the beginning of this innovative European research initiative aimed at developing next-generation sustainable technical textiles.
The project coordinator, Guy Buyle, opened the two-day session by welcoming the attending partners and providing an overview of the agenda. He then handed over the stage to various speakers who presented the work plan and outlined the objectives for the upcoming years.
Project Overview:
SUBBIMATT, a Horizon Europe project co-funded by the European Union, focuses on developing a new generation of biobased and bioinspired smart technical textile materials. By creating advanced adhesives, bio-polyurethane, and responsive materials, the project aims to produce sustainable textiles with energy-harvesting capabilities and adaptable properties. These materials will be integrated into three demonstrators: shape-changing building facades, automotive textiles, and adaptive garments, promoting a transition towards a circular and climate-neutral economy.
On the afternoon of the second day, the partners were given a guided tour of Centexbel’s laboratories, allowing them to observe firsthand the advanced machinery that will play a pivotal role throughout the project’s development.
Overall, the kick-off meeting set a strong foundation for the SUBBIMATT project, fostering collaboration and aligning the partners on the shared vision of creating sustainable and high-performance technical textiles. The coming years promise significant progress towards more resilient and eco-friendly solutions for various industries.
